Chris Castillo
About
Dr. Christopher Eduardo Castillo is an Assistant Professor of English at Indiana University Northwest, where he joined the faculty in 2025. A recipient of the 2025 Summer Faculty Fellowship and an Honorable Mention for the 2025 CCCC Richard Braddock Award, he teaches courses in composition and rhetoric with an emphasis on professional and technical writing.
His courses include first-year writing courses (ENG-W130/ENG-W131), Professional Writing (ENG-W 231), and Introduction to Writing and Literary Studies (ENG-W509). His teaching has also included courses centered on Hip Hop composition and literacy narratives, with an emphasis on the multiple literacies students bring to the writing classroom.
Castillo’s teaching and research interests include literacy studies, multiliteracies, and Hip Hop composition. His work has been published in Computers and Composition, College Composition and Communication, and (Re)Considering What We Know. He is currently working on his book project entitled The Engineers: The Sonic Practices of a Hip Hop Community that focuses on the way Black audio engineers create Hip Hop music in the Midwest.
