Richard Meetz
About
Dr. Richard Meetz is a clinical professor emeritus at the Indiana University School of Optometry. He received his postdoctoral training in clinical research design and statistical analysis from the School of Public Health at the University of Michigan. From 1976 to 1994 he served as the director of Screening and Evaluative Services, where he directed the School of Optometryís mobile clinics in a statewide program, bringing eye care to thousands of children each year. During those years he testified before the state legislature, advised revisions in the school health laws, and wrote the procedure manual for vision testing of children for the Indiana Department of Education. Dr. Meetzís wide range of clinical expertise includes 24 years concurrently in private practice. He has been drawn upon by other University departments and institutions to lecture such as the IU Medical Sciences Program and the School of Education. He also is an adjunct professor for the optometry program in Bangkok, Thailand.
Dr. Meetz has served the National Board of Examiners in Optometry (NBEO) first as a senior examiner, PAM item writer, and seven years as a chief examiner. He currently is one of the NBEOís NCCTO remote graders. Dr. Meetz is board certified in medical optometry by the American Board of Certification in Medical Optometry (ABCMO). He is an active member of the Indiana Optometric Association (IOA), the American Optometric Association (AOA), American Public Health Association (APHA), and he is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry (FAAO). He is the recipient of 12 teaching awards, including the 2010 Michael G. Harris Award for Excellence in Optometric Education from the American Academy of Optometry.
